The Peace Officers Standards and Training Post (POST) today voted against naming a police training fund after Philando Castile–the man fatally shot by a St. Anthony police officer during a traffic stop last summer. Governor Dayton called for the fund to be created and named after Castile earlier this month. And he appointed Castile’s uncle, Clarence, to the board. At the time, a coalition of law enforcement unions said the governor’s recommendation of naming the fund after Castile was insulting to police. The officer, Jeronimo Yanez, was acquitted on all charges related to the shooting.
