Republicans and Governor Mark Dayton continue wrangling over the state budget, and one area of big difference is funding to expand voluntary pre-kindergarten in Minnesota. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt says Dayton thinks the House wants to zero-out funding for early learning programs. “Absolutely not true,” Daudt says. “In fact, we’re funding at a record level, and our target really is to make sure that the dollars help kids, and we think our ideas are better and we’re eager to have the conversations.” Dayton wants 175 million dollars to expand pre-K, but Republicans argue money for early learning programs targeted to at-risk children would be much more cost-effective.
