President Trump is back in Minnesota later this week (Thurs) for a rally in Rochester. Minnesota Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan says the president “did great” in 2016 in the First Congressional District, and in the 8th in northeast Minnesota where he visited in June. “He won both of those districts respectively by 15 and 16 points,” she says. “Given that those are both open seats for United States Congress and are targeted as the two biggest pick-up opportunities in the entire country…, it is no mistake that the president has specifically come into those two districts.”
D-F-Lers are confident the 1st and 8th congressional districts will remain in the Democratic column.
Carnahan says the president’s visit will also benefit Republicans’ efforts in the adjacent 2nd Congressional District. “President Trump also did well in Congressional District 2 in 2016, and we have an excellent member of Congress in Congressman Jason Lewis in CD-2 and he will be a part of the rally, so it’s all additive,” Carnahan says. Lewis is facing a strong challenge from Democrat Angie Craig.
