Republican U-S House candidate Jim Hagedorn says he’s excited President Trump will visit Rochester next week (Thurs 10/4) and if elected he’ll partner with the president “to keep moving our nation in the right direction.” Carleton College analyst Steven Schier predicts at least one more Trump visit after next week — before the election. “There are so many reasons that he might come back to Minnesota that it’s quite likely he will,” Schier says. Republicans see the 1st Congressional District in southern Minnesota, plus the 8th District in the northeast as real pick-up opportunities in November.
Schier says the president’s visit to Rochester could also help Republicans’ in the adjacent 2nd Congressional District. “The southern part of that district is more conservative than the northern, suburban part,” he says, “and to the extent that news coverage in Rochester covers the southern part of the 2nd District, Trump can help Jason Lewis in this race by appearing in Rochester.” There’s a heated battle in the 2nd between Republican incumbent Lewis and Democratic challenger Angie Craig.
