Don’t fly drones over wildfires — that’s the word from state officials after an unmanned aircraft and a private airplane were both detected in restricted airspace in northern Minnesota over the past few days. Jean Goad with the Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids says “we all like to get good pictures…, but please stay away from wildfires with drones because it could cause communications issues with aircraft on the fire.”
Those operating unauthorized aircraft in restricted airspace around wildfires are subject to a number of penalties.
