Lawmakers are hearing about backlogs, inaccurate data and other problems with the state’s new vehicle licensing and registration system at the State Capitol this afternoon. Gaye Smith with the Minnesota Deputy Registrars Association says, “We’ve got wrong information that has been brought over to the new system, wrong expiration dates,… a lot of things that are not getting paid for.” Driver and Vehicle Services officials say despite some problems, the new system is processing significantly more transactions. Legislative auditor James Nobles responds that might be the case, but not all transactions are correctly done. Others say what used to be done in one transaction now takes multiple operations.
