The prosecution presented its closing arguments in a packed Saint Paul courtroom this morning in the manslaughter trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez. The state contends Philando Castile was just a man driving his family home from the grocery store when Officer Yanez shot and killed him during a routine traffic stop last July. Prosecutors allege Yanez was not justified in shooting Castile and never saw him pull out a gun as Yanez claims. Prosecutors say Yanes acted recklessly and “you don’t use deadly force as a first option, simply because you’re nervous.” After closing arguments by the defense, the case goes to the jury.
