The Dakota County Attorney concludes that a Burnsville Police Officer was justified using deadly force in a fatal September shooting. Sergeant Steven Stoler shot and killed Jaime Lewis after Lewis refused officers’ commands for him to drop a gun. Officials searched for Lewis after his girlfriend told police that he had been suicidal and had left their apartment with a handgun. She also told them Lewis was a convicted felon who said he’d rather die than go back to prison if caught with a weapon. Lewis was located and Stoler said he feared for his life when Lewis pointed the gun towards him. That’s when Stoler fired, striking Lewis three times.
