Protesters at MN Senate building demand legislature pass wide-ranging police reforms

July 18, 2020 By Bill Werner

Protesters converged on the Minnesota Senate building at the State Capitol last night, demanding lawmakers pass wide-ranging police reform measures when they resume their special session Monday. One demonstrator shouted to a cheering crowd, “Senate, you better do something with this sh**! You better do something with this! And that go for the Republican, the Democrat, all of you. All of you!”

It’s expected legislative leaders and the governor will continue negotiations this weekend, not only on police reform but also on a bonding bill for state public works projects. House Republicans are holding that package hostage, demanding the governor relinquish at least some of his COVID emergency powers.
