The public comment period opens today (Fri) on the final Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed PolyMet copper/nickel mine in northern Minnesota and environmentalists are ready with multiple objections. Andrew Slade with the Minnesota Environmental Partnership in Duluth says they’ve learned that seepage from the proposed mine could very well go north into the Boundary Waters. Opponents say key factors were overlooked in the E-I-S. Backers respond water coming out of the plant will be cleaner than what’s there now.
