Calls for a bonding bill for state public works projects are becoming louder at the State Capitol with under five weeks to the adjournment deadline and little movement so far. Republican leaders are apparently thinking about trying to trade a bonding bill — which Governor Mark Dayton wants — for larger tax cuts — which he has a problem with. D-F-L Representative Alice Hausman (HOWZ-man) warns about that strategy, “We’ve done this before and it doesn’t work. If you hold it ’til the last minute, that’s when you run out of time, you make mistakes, or both.”
Grove City Republican Dean Urdahl, who chairs the House Capital Investment Committee, will only say about linking taxes and bonding, “Well, I wish them good luck on whatever negotiating attempts they’re going to make.”
