The American Red Cross needs blood and platelet donors because severe winter weather and seasonal flu have contributed to a spike in cancelled appointments. Spokeswoman Sue Thesenga says, “The Red Cross has issued a critical need for blood donations. Right now, blood and platelets are being distributed at the hospitals faster than they’re coming in.” She says they’re asking people who are able to travel to keep their blood donation appointment, or reschedule when it’s safe to travel.
Thesenga says people can download an app and schedule a blood donation appointment on their smartphone, or visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. She adds, if you don’t feel well, please wait until you’re better to donate blood.
