Zimmer and Spielman Fired

January 10, 2022 By kevin.falness@mnnradio.com

(Eagan, MN) — Today the Minnesota Vikings fired both general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer. In a statement from the team, owners Zygi and Mark Wilf said, “We appreciate Rick and Mike’s commitment to the team’s on-field success, their passion for making a positive impact in our community and their dedication to players, coaches and staff. While these decisions are not easy, we believe it is time for new leadership to elevate our team so we can consistently contend for championships. We wish both Rick and Mike and their families only the best.” The decision comes after the Vikings failed to make the postseason for the second year in a row. Spielman had been with the Vikings since 2006; Zimmer since 2014. Zimmer was 72-56-1 as head coach of the Vikings including an 8-9 record this season.
