Republicans applaud the Trump administration for saying it would be open to states, pharmacies and drug manufacturers importing some lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada with federal approval — but Democrats aren’t impressed. G-O-P state Senator Michelle Benson of Ham Lake says it reduces the need for Minnesotans to caravan to Canada — but more important, “It impacts the entire drug system so the pharmaceutical companies will treat Minnesotans fairly as they have been Canadians.”
Minnesota House Speaker, Democrat Melissa Hortman calls it a P-R move by the Trump administration for the upcoming election: “It’s really a fig leaf intended to cover for the fact that the Trump administration has failed to advocate for consumers,” she says, adding that people won’t be helped anytime soon.
