Minnesota’s 2019 regular and special legislative sessions were by most accounts a draw, with neither Democrats nor Republicans getting significant traction on their respective agendas. Speaker Melissa Hortman indicates House Democrats will likely try again next year on major agenda items including gun violence prevention; changing the standard on sexual harassment so that victims get a day in court if they’re sexually harassed; and paid family leave.
Republicans will likely try to hold off any tax increases and push for greater government efficiency and reigning in spending on health and human services programs.
