Senate Republicans are responding favorably to hints by Democratic Governor Tim Walz that he might propose reductions to individual income taxes, which Walz says hasn’t happened for nearly 20 years. “A lot of middle class families need to see some relief somehow,” says Walz. Senate Tax Committee Chairman, Lino Lakes Republican Roger Chamberlain responds if the governor is talking about real tax reductions “we’re on board — but we’re not on board with tax increases, which we can ill afford and there’s not much room left to move for the state and the people here.”
Governor Walz says businesses did not use federal tax cuts to expand, but when asked whether business taxes should increase in Minnesota would only say, “I think we need to be more thoughtful on how we’re doing things.”
