Repubs pushing Dayton administration to use outside vendors to fix troubled MN-LARS system

June 27, 2018 By Bill Werner

Republican lawmakers are pressing the Dayton administration to possibly use outside vendors for more of the repair work on the problem-ridden MN-LARS vehicle registration system — instead of having the state’s I-T department do it. Hutchinson Senator Scott Newman says, “It is mandated by statute, and all I’m asking for is the information, and I feel like there’s some reticence.”  Kate Weeks with the state Public Safety Department responded, “No reason to hold onto it, but I want to make sure that it is informative… and… that… there’s no information in there… that is non-public data.”

Weeks promised lawmakers summary information by August 1st. Newman responded he’ll make an official request for details on information the state received from three outside companies.
