(Richfield, MN) — A Richfield police officer accused of hitting a Somali man on Saturday night has been placed on paid administrative leave. In a video posted on Twitter, the officer appears to strike the 19-year-old Somali man who had been pulled over and given a citation for careless driving. The man claims he got out of his car to talk on his phone and says that’s when the officer pushed him and hit him on the side of the head. Richfield’s police chief says his department is committed to “fairness, transparency and maintaining good community relations” and is conducting a thorough investigation.
