In his first visit since the Minnesota State Fair, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders will be at the U-of-M Minneapolis campus a week from Sunday (11/3) for a rally with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. In mid-October Omar endorsed Sanders over fellow Minnesotan, Senator Amy Klobuchar.
In the last presidential debate, Klobuchar took issue with Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren about their “Medicare for All” plan, after Sanders acknowledged, “For virtually everybody, the tax increase they pay will be substantially less than what they were paying for premiums and out-of-pocket.” Klobuchar responded, “At least Bernie’s being honest here and saying how he’s gonna pay for this and that taxes are gonna go up. And I’m sorry, Elizabeth, but you have not said that, and I think we owe it to the American people to tell them where we’re gonna send the invoice.”
Klobuchar, who qualified for the next presidential debate, is running well behind Sanders, who’s a strong third in national polls which suggest his campaign might have gotten a boost from Congresswoman Omar’s endorsement.
