Today marks the 15th anniversary of the death of Senator Paul Wellstone, his wife Sheila, their daughter Marcia and four others in a plane crash near Eveleth. Senator Al Franken says it was a devastating day for Minnesotans and he’s remembering his friend Paul today. Franken says Wellstone was “a champion of the little guy and he is sorely, sorely missed. I hold the seat that he held and I’m just honored to do that and carry his legacy forward.”
Franken says it’s “very humbling to try to work in [Wellstone’s] shadow and footsteps.” Franken says “people in Minnesota respect a politician who says what he believes and believes what he says and they took their measure of Paul Wellstone and said, ‘I may not agree with him on everything, but I know that at least he has integrity’.” Here’s MNN’s Scott Peterson’s chat with Sen. Franken about Wellstone and his legacy.
