The latest attempt to repeal Obamacare fell short in dramatic fashion early this morning. The repeal failed after three Republicans–including Arizona’s John McCain–joined with all 48 Democrats in voting no. Here is a brief interview with Democratic U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar about the vote., and what Democrats and Republicans must do moving forward:
Following the vote, President Trump took to Twitter this morning and said “3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down.” Minnesota GOP Chair Jennifer Carnahan released this statement:
“As we have seen, repealing and replacing the failed Obamacare system won’t be easy, particularly when Democrats have been unwilling to engage in forging a bipartisan solution. The robust policy debates taking place in our party on healthcare reform is a sign of a healthy party with competing ideas on how to solve our country’s challenges. Compare that to how the Democrats forced Obamacare on the American people with Nancy Pelosi’s infamous “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it” quote, and you can see Republicans are being very transparent and open about how we want to improve the health care system. While the process has hit a few bumps in the road, I believe the vast majority of Minnesotans and American people understand and respect that Republicans are engaging in a thorough analysis and rigorous discussion of how to proceed. It isn’t always neat, and it’s certainly not without spirited debate. But that’s exactly how the process is supposed to work.”
