Senator Tina Smith has issued a clarification after critics said she misrepresented details of a bill that would ban most abortions after the 20th week. Smith tweeted last week there would be “no exceptions for survivors of rape and incest” — but posted an amended statement today saying “The bill does include exceptions for survivors of sexual assault, but they are wholly inadequate. I should have been more precise by describing the bill that way.” The mistake earned Smith a “Pinocchio” from the Washington Post.
