A Washington County sheriff’s deputy faces second-degree manslaughter charges for fatally shooting a suicidal man in Lake Elmo during a confrontation in April 2018. According to the Star Tribune, the grand jury indictment alleges “culpable negligence” by 31-year-old Benjamin Krook in consciously taking chances of causing death or great bodily harm. Investigators say 23-year-old Benjamin Evans was holding a gun and told officers he wanted to kill himself. They say officers made repeated attempts to get Evans to put down the gun and at some point Deputy Krook fired multiple shots that struck him.
