Six people were injured, three critically, when a van crashed into a bus stop this morning at the busy Lyndale Avenue/West Broadway intersection in north Minneapolis. Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla says investigators don’t yet know what caused the crash. “I believe there’s gonna be a lot of pieces to this puzzle to hopefully get us to where we can absolutely answer that definitively,” he says.
Padilla says the crash was “absolutely not” the result of a police chase. Preliminary information indicates the van struck the mirror of a bus, backed up and hit the mirror again, then went around the corner and crashed into the bus shelter. The driver of the van is reportedly cooperating with investigators.
