Speaker Kurt Daudt has changed his stance and says he’ll allow a 14-thousand-dollar pay raise for House lawmakers to take effect. It comes after two legislators — one Republican and one Democrat — sued to force the increase approved by a special council established by the constitutional amendment voters approved last fall. Daudt says while he personally objects to the Legislative Salary Council, voters supported the approach and “it has become increasingly clear that the Minnesota House is constitutionally required to pay legislators the prescribed amount” of 45 thousand dollars per year. Senators are already receiving the pay raise.
