A special panel of state lawmakers today gets an update from the Dayton administration on how repairs are proceeding to the state’s trouble-plagued vehicle registration system, MNLARS. Willmar Republican Representative Dave Baker says, “We’ve got legislative authority to stop the funding should we feel like this thing is not on track like they said they were going to.”
Baker says one key question is, “What is the plan for the remaining dollars that will likely not make the goals that even they wanted, and how do they plan on continuing this program moving forward in a positive way.” Republicans included additional money in a budget bill which Governor Mark Dayton vetoed over other concerns. He’s said Republicans want MN-LARS to fail at least until after the election so they can blame Democrats.
The panel will hear from Dayton administration officials, deputy registrars, auto dealers and other stakeholders.
