Prospects for a special session are dimming after negotiations between Governor Mark Dayton and Republicans over a bonding bill broke down Tuesday at the State Capitol. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says “the governor has not moved a single centimeter from where he was a few weeks ago.” Dayton responds Republicans pushed the two sides further apart by making fresh demands for tax credits for private schools plus a measure related to the minimum wage. “We went backwards,” he says. “They [Republicans] added two measures that are enormously controversial. They know that.” Dayton and Republicans accuse each other of wanting campaign fodder more than a special session. Political wrangling killed a bonding bill one month ago in the final minutes of the legislative session.
