An engineering study on upgrading Interstate 94 to three lanes both directions between Saint Cloud and Saint Michael remains in play at the legislature despite MN-DOT’s objections. Saint Cloud Senator Jerry Relph says, “It’s not all gonna get done next year, but if we can start taking pieces and going forward with it, why, that’s what we’d like to do.”
But MN-DOT’s Scott Peterson says the Saint Cloud/Saint Michael upgrade does not compete well with other projects vying for state dollars. “To make this kind of investment in a project that may or may not be undertaken for several years is not money well spent,” Peterson says.
Backers want a half million dollars for an engineering study.
