A young man from Saint Cloud is charged with first-degree assault for allegedly shooting a police officer in the hand early Monday morning. Authorities say on a Facebook Live video, 18-year-old Sumaree Boose — who does not have a permit to carry — showed what appeared to be a handgun in his pocket. The officer was shot during a struggle when police were trying to take Boose into custody after he fled from a gas station. The incident triggered civil unrest in Saint Cloud when a false report circulated on social media that a white officer had shot a black man. Officers used tear gas to disperse a crowd that gathered around a police station with some demonstrators throwing rocks.
