Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter this afternoon presents a supplemental public safety budget proposal to the city council. The plan includes over a million dollars in what the mayor’s office terms investments. It comes after a rash of shootings that have made 2019 the deadliest year in Saint Paul in a quarter century. Carter’s plan would add to over 170 million dollars that he’s already requested for the police and fire departments in 2020. The additional money he’s proposed could affect property taxes.
