Face masks will be required beginning June 1st in all city-controlled facilities in Saint Paul and all city-licensed businesses, under an executive order Mayor Melvin Carter issued Wednesday. There are exemptions for young children at risk of suffocation, and for those who can’t wear a face covering for medical reasons. Mayor Carter also signed an order suspending off-street parking requirements for licensed restaurants and bars — and expediting approvals for businesses to use sidewalks, roadways, parks and parking areas as dining or sale spaces. Governor Tim Walz is allowing bars and restaurants to re-open June 1st for outdoor dining only at reduced capacities.
