A 23-year-old St. Peter man was sentenced today to five months in jail for his role in an assault on a former Minnesota State-Mankato football player.
In March, Trevor Shelley had pleaded guilty to punching Isaac Kolstad outside a Mankato bar in 2014. Former University of Minnesota Gopher quarterback Philip Nelson was also involved in the assault and was sentenced in March to two days in jail with credit for time served and 100 hours of community service for his role in the incident.
Kolstad suffered a severe brain injury as a result of the assault.
Shelley will begin serving his sentence in the Blue Earth County Jail on May 20th.
