The Minnesota Board on Aging has awarded 750 thousand dollars to 11 communities across Minnesota to assist people with dementia and those who care for them. Executive Director Kari Benson says the approach is to “make the funding available to local… community organizations so that they can come to us with a proposal that meets the needs that they see in their local communities.”
Benson says the programs include early identification and screening of those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia… and training for professionals so they can better support people with dementia in a variety of cultures. She says the goal is to build community capacity. “Any one of us who might then have dementia, [it] would really allow us to age in-community and stay at home and receive the help that we need as we age.”
