State bans sales of off-brand spinning battle toys, cites lead and cadmium hazard

November 26, 2019 By Bill Werner

State officials are banning sale in Minnesota of off-brand Beyblades-type spinning battle toys which tests found have toxic levels of lead and cadmium. State Commerce Commissioner Steve Kelley says within 24 hours Amazon, AliExpress and Wish.com must either stop selling the toxic products, or put warnings on their websites that the products are banned in Minnesota and stop shipments to the state. Kelley says, “If they don’t comply with the order, our remedy is to… seek a court order enforcing it.”

Officials say name-brand spinning battle toys from Hasbro and TAKARATOMY did *not* show elevated levels of lead or cadmium. They suggest parents buy name brands and be cautious of products which are significantly cheaper.
