Minnesota lawmakers find out this morning (915am) how much extra money they’ll have in the state budget when they come back to Saint Paul in March. Because Governor Mark Dayton and Republicans couldn’t agree on transportation spending or business tax cuts, they left 865 million dollars unspent when they wrapped up budget negotiations last summer. The state over the past four months has also collected 140 million dollars in unexpected tax revenue. Observers expect a total surplus of over a billion dollars, which will re-ignite the debate over money for roads and bridges, pre-kindergarten and business tax cuts, to name just a few items.
