State Democratic Party chair says President Trump should not expect warm welcome in Minnesota

April 11, 2019 By Bill Werner

Minnesota Democratic Party Chairman Ken Martin says if President Trump expects a warm welcome in Minnesota next Monday, he’ll be sorely disappointed. Martin says, “The tax scam that Trump will be trumpeting was a massive giveaway to the rich and powerful, and it was paid for unfortunately on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the young and families that are in need.” Republicans respond the president’s tax cuts have kept the economy going full-steam, with major benefits to Minnesota families and businesses.

Analysts says Monday’s visit is part of the president’s strategy to win Minnesota in 2020, after nearly taking the state in 2016. But Martin says, “I think he’s gonna find that there’s a lot of buyer’s remorse amongst voters here in Minnesota who voted for him in 2016.” Martin adds the president should pay attention to what happened in the 2018 elections in Minnesota when Democrats won the governor’s office and took control of the Minnesota House.
