State Senator Jeremy Miller has questions about accountability and transparency as the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board begins setting up a non-profit to handle taconite tax dollars. The Republican from Winona wants guarantees the money will go only for economic development and job creation. I-R-R-R-B Commissioner Mark Phillips says his response to Miller is, “Yeah,… your list of questions are the questions I want to answer, and I need some resources to be able to do that.” Phillips wants 50 thousand dollars to set up the non-profit, but adds he’s not proposing to move any large amounts of money because the entity, called Range Trust, is not organized yet. It’s expected the I-R-R-R-B will act at its January 24th meeting.
