A group of state lawmakers have formed a “People of Color Indigenous Caucus” to help close the economic and achievement gap in Minnesota. Their goals are access to education, healthy families, economic opportunity and civil rights for all. Minneapolis Senator Patricia Torres Ray says, “We need to move beyond the rhetoric. We simply need to get it done.” The group says the legislature should invest in quality of life for Minnesotasn, instead of using the budget surplus for 1.3 billion dollars in tax breaks to the wealthy. Republicans respond their tax cut plan focuses on middle-income Minnesotans, and putting money back in their pockets will spur economic growth.
