Some of the state’s ramped up COVID testing capacity is going unused. State officials say they’re not sure why, but that it’s *not* likely they’ll open up COVID tests to everyone — not just those with symptoms. Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm says, “If just anybody that wants a test comes to get a test, it’s frankly not gonna tell you much…. Even if it’s a great test, you can test negative one day and positive the next.”
There are also antibody tests which indicate whether someone has had COVID-19 without knowing it. But state officials say it’s unclear whether someone is then immune to the disease, or how long that immunity lasts.
