State officials to announce COVID-19 guidelines for graduation ceremonies

May 8, 2020 By Bill Werner

State officials this morning announce public health guidelines for high school and college graduation ceremonies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Tim Walz said yesterday, “A graduation and a graduation party is one of the markings of adulthood and that you have now entered another level. We’re working hard on this one. I’m trying to turn over every stone that we can do, and we know that that guidance needs to get out there quickly.”

Walz says, “Small family gatherings or something, I can imagine families having two sets of cousins and wanting to do something in their backyard and do it socially-distanced. We gotta figure out how to do that.” Minneapolis Public School officials announced last week the Class of 2020 will have virtual graduation ceremonies.
