MN Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman
Minnesota Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman says a sweeping settlement reached with his department will clean up business practices of bail-bond firms in Minnesota. Rothman says the industry has agreed to prohibiting practices such as kickbacks and sharing commissions with people who are not licensed, plus inmates could not be paid for referrals. He says bail-bond companies have also agreed not to solicit business on courthouse or jail property, and will not offer anything of value to a jailer, police officer, judge or public employee. Rothman says the settlement, resulting from a three-year investigation, will help protect the dignity of Minnesota’s justice system.
