GOP State Senator Karin Housley of St. Mary’s Point today announced she’s running in the 2018 special election for Senator Al Franken’s seat. Housley says for too long Washington elites have gotten away with doing whatever they want. She plans to change that and says “people are now more worried about what government is doing to them instead of what they can do for them. So I think it’s getting there and changing the culture, working across the aisle, working hard and really listening to the voices of Minnesota and what they want.”Housley is the first Republican to throw her hat in the ring. She says she’ll abide by her party’s endorsement. Last week, Governor Dayton announced he was appointing Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith to serve out Franken’s term through the special election. Housley discusses with MNN’s Scott Peterson why she decided now it the time to run.
