Senate Republicans rolled out their plan to improve elder and vulnerable adult care in Minnesota. In her bill, Senator Karin Housley of St. Marys Point is calling for a streamlined complaint process and more oversight of the Office of Health Facilities Complaints. She says there’s been a lot of “mismanagement and it was just chaos over there.” Housley says the bill would “require that the Office of Health Facilities complaints reports back to us quarterly on what is actually happening, what trends are they seeing, what trends can they report back to the facilities in order to prevent some of these incidents.” The plan also calls for strict abuse prevention measures, like electronic monitoring and protections for consumers against misleading marketing practices. Governor Dayton unveiled his nearly $15 million plan to improve elder care services earlier this week. Housley calls that plan too “one-sided” and says it ignores many of the realities of the problem.
