Minnesota saw an all-time high number of Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) cases in 2017. Krissie Guerard with the state Health Department says there were 30,981 cases–including chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. Guerard says that’s about an 8% increase from 2016. Guerard says there was a 10-percent increase in new syphilis cases and a 28-percent increase in cases of gonorrhea. Chlamydia is still the most reported STD in Minnesota, with 23,528 in 2017. She’s urging people at high-risk of infection–including sexually active people and those who inject drugs–to get tested at least once per year.
