On this busiest week of the boating season, all the Great Lakes states and Canadian provinces are doing stepped-up inspections to make sure laws are followed to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Adam Doll with the D-N-R says in Minnesota, county law enforcement officers are participating and “conservation officers are out this week as well. They’re doing I guess what would be a saturation of officers this week, out enforcing A-I-S laws.”
Doll says all watercraft operators should “make sure that you are inspecting and cleaning your equipment fully, you’re pulling all your drain plugs and draining all that water, so you’re not moving any plants, animals, water, mud or anything like that from one location to another.”
Officials say unwanted bait should also be thrown in the trash — not the water. For more info, visit the D-N-R’s website.
