Strong storm hits Hutchinson area Tuesday

May 30, 2018 By Tasha Redel

Heavy rain, hail, and high winds hit the area Tuesday afternoon, causing downed trees, broken branches, and knocking out power in some areas.

McLeod Co-op Power reported the storms took down power lines and caused numerous outages in townships across McLeod County and also a few outages in Renville and Sibley Counties.

Officials remind the public to stay away from any downed power lines, as they could still be energized.

The State Patrol says a semi-tractor-trailer was southbound on Highway 15 south of Hutchinson during the thunderstorm when a strong wind blew the lightly-loaded semi off the road and into the west ditch, where it rolled onto its side.

The driver, 62-year-old Jeffry Lee Gieseke of Mankato, was taken to Hutchinson Health for treatment of what were believed to be minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened just after 3pm on Highway 15, near 150th Street.  Thanks to KDUZ radio.
