Rep. Bob Barrett (R-Lindstrom)
The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled today Republican State Representative Bob Barrett cannot run for re-election in House District 32-B in east-central Minnesota because he doesn’t live in the district. A court-appointed referee found “clear and convincing evidence” that Barrett does not live at a Taylors Falls rental property he claimed as his residence. Barrett owns a house in nearby Shafer and his wife lives there, but that’s in a different legislative district. The Supreme Court says it’s too close to the election to remove Barrett’s name from the ballot, but ordered that notices be posted at polling places that he’s ineligible as a candidate, and that a special election be held in mid-February.
