The Minnesota Supreme Court says it’s still unclear how long the state legislature can continue operating without funding that Governor Mark Dayton vetoed, and has ordered both sides to provide more information by next Thursday. One of the big unknowns is whether Republican leaders can tap funds from the Legislative Coordinating Commission. The high court wants to know how much money is available and is asking Republicans to state specifically what legal authority they have to use it. Legislative leaders previously told the Supreme Court that, without the appropriations Dayton vetoed, the Senate will run out of money December 1st and the House on February 1st. The legislature could try to override Dayton’s veto, but it doesn’t reconvene until February 20th.
Dayton is trying to force Republicans to rescind several business tax cuts and other measures.
