A survey of 700 residents along Highway 14 in southern Minnesota finds 64 percent support a gas tax increase to increase road funding, and over three-quarters say the metro area should be allowed to have a sales tax for light rail transit. North Mankato Mayor Mark Dehen says the survey finds support for two issues that have been a barrier to compromise at the State Capitol. He says, “We are letting our state legislators know that we want them to stop the bickering over those two issues and come to a long-term, meaningful solution to this problem.” The survey was commissioned by the Highway 14 Partnership, a group pushing to upgrade Highway 14 to four lanes in southern Minnesota.
