Governor Mark Dayton and Republicans are making little progress toward reviving a bonding bill for state construction projects that died in the closing minutes of the legislative session. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says they’re “kind of at a standoff” over funding for Southwest Light Rail in the Twin Cities. Daudt says, “We don’t think that Met Council… should be able to spend 1.8 billion dollars of… capital money up front on this project without legislative approval.” The governor responds Southwest Light Rail has been vetted and re-vetted more than anything he’s seen in his time as governor: “If they [Republicans] want to have hearings on it, they could have asked for those it seems to me for the last 11 weeks. Now it’s just one more pretext to avoid a resolution of it.”
